At the Clean Health Fitness Institute we pride ourselves in offering the highest level of coaching to our clients. Our scope encompasses not just training, but also nutrition and lifestyle too. We do not hire Personal Trainers – we hire coaches.
Here are 7 reasons why you should hire a coach:
A coach can help to hold you accountable to your pre-determined goals. Accountability is one of the most important roles a coach carries out. Without this accountability goals are rarely met and focus is lost.
A coach will not just tell you to do something. A coach will tell you to do something and explain why it is important to do so. For example, I will not change someone’s nutrition plan without first explaining the rationale for the changes. At Clean Health Fitness Institute we want to educate our clients so that they become less reliant on us in the long term.
As the saying goes, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. Ultimately we want to educate our clients about training, nutrition and lifestyle so they are able to make better choices for themselves going forward.
Assessment is a huge part of a coaches job. When we first see a client at our Sydney CBD and Chatswood gyms we have an initial consultation & structural assessment. These sessions are arguably the most important during a client’s time with us, as it allows us to assess our clients both from a physical and psychological standpoint. We can gauge a client’s level of motivation, how ready their readiness for change, how confident they are, what barriers they have to achieving their goals and what physical limitations they may have.
All of this information is recorded and serves as vital information throughout the coaching process. Ongoing assessment is also crucial, as the majority of clients we see want to see improvements in their physique. Having a range of assessment tools is useful to see how a client is progressing and what needs to be changed in response to this.
Methods we use include the BioPrint body fat assessment, tape measure, photos, scale weight and DEXA scans. I like to assess clients regularly to ensure maximal progress is being made.
A good coach will provide a client with a structure to work from. For example, all of our coaches provide structured training and nutrition programs for our clients to follow. These programs will be individualized to suit the needs and individual circumstances of our clients. The important thing is that these programs give structure to our client’s lives.
This is hugely important, especially when majority of our clientele are from the corporate world with hectic schedules and are extremely time poor. Having regular appointments with a coach each week provides routine and will ensure training sessions are not missed.
Even the most highly motivated clients need a jolt of motivation from time to time. I cannot remember the number of times clients have told me there would be no way they would have come to the gym if it had not have been for their scheduled appointment.
Our coaches not only provide a high level of motivation during sessions, but they follow up and communicate with clients outside of sessions to ensure the planned training sessions are being completed, the nutrition plan is being stuck to etc. The extra communication outside of sessions is arguably more important than the motivation clients receive in sessions and is one of the main reasons our clients see such great progress.
The common image of a personal trainer is the Drill Sergeant-type who shouts and screams at their clients to complete ‘ONE MORE REP!!!’. The reality of course, is much different. Whilst a coach does have a duty to motivate, as mentioned above, they also have a duty to support and care for a client, make them feel comfortable and ensure continued success and progress.
All of our personal trainers invest in coaches for themselves. This is hugely important as it provides a degree of empathy, we know how it feels to be the client too. Having this insight enables us to be more understanding of our clients and helps us as coaches think ‘outside the box’ when the situation demands it.
There is little doubt that having a coach will enable you to get far more out of your training than you ever thought possible. Clients are often amazed by what they achieve in their time training with me and my fellow colleagues surpassing even their wildest expectations. Having the support and motivation of a coach will enable you to achieve more than you ever thought possible.
