Whilst snowboarding in New Zealand earlier this year I got a call from IFBB with exiting news that I’d been invited to compete in Arnold’s Sport Festival in Spain. At this stage I had just 7 weeks to get ready for an international competition and step on stage with some of the best athletes from all over the world.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to stay in shape, in-fact I stay lean (around 14% body fat) all year round. However the invitation was unexpected and caught me off-guard and I was desperate to get ready on time. Even with all of my years of experience, having been awarded multiple titles in bikini fitness in various different federations, holding the title of 2012 Fitness Model World Champion (INBA) I still needed support and encouragement from an elite trainer. Enter Daine McDonald.
Daine created a killing program tailored just for me to bring my shape to a new level. My programme consisted of 2 workouts per day 6 days a week. In order to ensure I was on track I would send him pictures after my morning cardio and weight session to be sure that I progressed nicely building and sculpting my physique. It should also be noted that the bulk of this coaching and preparation was done remotely as I was overseas, no usual Aussie food, different gyms, different lifestyle, different timezone. I’m sure you get the picture, it was tough!
In reality it was probably one of the toughest experiences of my life but a character building extremely rewarding endeavour none the less. The end result was to achieve 7th at Arnold’s Sport Festival and 1st place at Amateur Bikini Olympia the following week.
Daine really helped me to unleash my inner strength and create a totally new body for the stage. I cannot thank him enough for a job well done and another goal achieved. My victory is as much a testament to his skill as an elitist trainer as to my dedication in pursuit of my dreams.
